Jihei selects durable, fine-grained wood from virgin forests and seasons it for several years. He needs to figure out the right timing to start woodturning because wood is a living material. Each piece of wood sheds moisture at its own pace, slowly changing its shape. His works sometimes are made of multiple different types of woods, which makes the work more difficult.
He uses chisels and suitable materials to create sculptural works. Respecting the personality of woods, he can create exactly as he aimed.
